Rural Keosauqua resident Tom O’Donnell filed papers today with the Iowa Secretary of State to get on the ballot for Iowa House of Representatives District 87.

O’Donnell delivered more than 20 pages of nominating petitions carrying signatures from more than 400 voters in the district, which covers Van Buren County and parts of Henry and Jefferson counties, including Mt. Pleasant and Fairfield. The total signatures are more than eight times the minimum number required.

“Not every person who signed will vote for us, but the strong response shows District 87 residents want a choice when they go to the polls on November 3^rd,” O’Donnell said. “We’re lucky to have great volunteers who helped gather signatures.”

O’Donnell is running make rural southeast Iowa stronger: addressing costs, supporting public education, maintaining health care access, boosting economic opportunity and conserving natural resources.

O’Donnell, a retired reporter and editor, lives in the unincorporated town of Vernon with his wife, Paula Mohr.
